Due to a crew shortage, the M/V Sankaty will not run on the Vineyard route starting with Friday's 11:05 a.m. trip from Woods Hole until the Sunday 11:05 a.m. departure. Our Reservations Office have moved as many reservations as possible to other trips; anyone with a reservation that was not able to be moved should report to either the Woods Hole or Vineyard Haven terminals to be placed in line for priority standby travel by our terminal staff.
Most of these crew shortage instances stem from a single absence, either of a licensed deck officer (captain or pilot) or a member of the engineering staff, which are positions that are the hardest to substitute for on short notice when an absence occurs. When no other qualified crew members agree to take these shifts, we move other personnel around to fill in as we can. Unfortunately, that is not always possible, which is when cancellations occur.
