Sail into Imagination Art Contest 2018

Art Contest Winners

Congratulations to the winners of our third annual Sail into Imagination student art contest! The winning artwork will be featured in the Steamship Authority's 2019 calendar, which will be available at Steamship terminals later this year.

Conceived to engage students to celebrate our shared heritage of the sea, nearly 100 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 submitted original artwork inspired by the theme “Sail into Imagination.” Students attending schools in the towns of Barnstable, Fairhaven, Falmouth, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and New Bedford were invited to participate.

Artwork was reviewed and winners were selected by our panel of judges: Nancy Pettibone, Cape Cod artist and art teacher; Emily Mezzetti, education director, JFK Hyannis Museum; and Kimberly DuCharme Nickerson, Cape Cod artist.

The winners were recognized at a celebratory reception at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on Monday, July 23rd.  Winning selections were unveiled and displayed at the museum during the reception. Each winner was awarded a $100 gift card for passenger travel aboard a ferry and a selection of art supplies.

“All of the entries we received showed tremendous talent and creativity,” said Robert Davis, general manager of the Steamship Authority. “Our judges had a challenging task of selecting only fourteen, but we’re thrilled to congratulate these winners and showcase their talents aboard our vessels and in next year’s calendar.”
