Position Summary

The Assistant Facilities Maintenance Manager supports the Facilities Maintenance Manager in the oversight, coordination, and execution of maintenance activities for SSA fixed facilities ashore. Facilities include ferry terminals, docks, buildings, the vessel maintenance facility, and parking lots. This position assists with inspections, work order management, contractor coordination, and compliance activities to ensure facilities are safe, reliable, and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day oversight of maintenance activities for SSA shoreside facilities, including terminals, docks, buildings, maintenance facilities, and parking areas.
  • Support the coordination and direction of Crafts (foremen and Crafts workers) as assigned to address inspection findings, maintenance requirements, and repair work orders.
  • Perform and document periodic inspections of facilities with a focus on maintenance, repair needs, safety, health, and cleanliness.
  • Coordinate with maintenance planning to assist in updating and maintaining the SSA Planned Maintenance System (PMS), including TAG/BC entries, for assigned facilities.
  • Assist with generating, tracking, and closing maintenance and repair work orders.
  • Support purchasing and procurement activities for facility-related maintenance and repair work in accordance with SSA procurement policies and delegated authority.
  • Assist in the review of facility-related construction or alteration plans prepared internally or by SSA-approved vendors.
  • Support the administration and oversight of shoreside construction and maintenance contracts, including site coordination, progress tracking, and verification of completed work.
  • Assist with investigations, documentation, and cause analysis related to incidents or events occurring at shoreside facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspections, work orders, contracts, drawings, and facility documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, property management, construction, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety standards.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, or trades.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS/PMS).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in both office and field environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in transportation, marine, municipal, or industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with planned maintenance systems such as TAG/BC.
  • Supervisory or lead experience with maintenance or trade staff.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Facilities Management or Construction-related certifications).

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Manager and works under the general direction of the Director of Engineering and Maintenance.

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Regular field work at terminals, docks, and maintenance facilities.
  • Ability to access confined or elevated spaces and walk active work sites.
  • Occasional after-hours or emergency response support may be required.
