Mechanic
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of this position include keeping all buses, vehicles and equipment in good mechanical condition, including a morning inspection of buses operating the daily schedule; performing preventive or corrective maintenance on all Steamship Authority vehicles and other equipment connected to the Vehicle Maintenance Facility as directed by the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Driver’s license, preferred commercial Class A or B.
- Must be an experienced gas or diesel mechanic, preferred experience with electric buses;
- Experienced brake systems technician with the ability to adjust, diagnose and repair problems with air systems, as broken or malfunctioning air valves in the braking system.
- Experienced or knowledge of Cummins, International and Caterpillar engines and all accessories, water pumps, alternators, accessory belts, and radiators.
- Must be experienced at running computer diagnostic tests for gas & diesel engines, vehicle systems and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions.
- Must be able to replace tires, adjust and replace brakes, replace all front-end parts and complete front-end alignments.
- Must be able to complete oil changes, repair and service bus auxiliary systems, replace lights, repair passenger entry doors and luggage compartment doors.
- Must have strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in varying conditions.
- Diagnoses, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on all fleet vehicles, buses and trailers.
Position pay starts at $38.31 per hour.
